HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS

One of my favorite things to do is experiment with my hair. I love wearing hair extensions of different colors, lengths and volume! (I could never say no to good quality hair).

But like with anything, there is a certain amount of care you need to make sure your extensions look their best. Here are a few maintenance tips for hair extensions, that I've picked up over the years. Stay tuned

1. Give Extensions TLC (tender loving care)

You will notice an overarching theme to this list of tips that you should be showing your extensions lots of love. And I mean it. If you own Raw human hair extensions, you should care for them the same way you would care for hair grown from your very own scalp. The maintenance method may be different, but the level of TLC required will not change.

2. Don't Sleep on Them

Just as it is essential to remove your makeup before going to your beautiful bed, you want to make sure your hair extensions are also taken care of. Try to sleep in a bonnet or a silk scarf to avoid tangling and breakage. With wigs I advise you to take your wig off and store it in a dry and neat place.

3. Be Gentle

When combing your extensions, use a wig brush or a wide-tooth comb that will be gentle on them. Always remember to start from the ends and work your way up, in the same way you'd detangle your own hair. This will to help cut down on shedding or breakage.

4. Keep Washing to a Minimum

If you have sewn in your hair extensions, wash your hair as often as you usually would. However, washing your hair extensions once in two weeks  is good enough. . This may feel like a long wait time but extensions do not have the natural oils that your hair natural hair does. Washing them very often can cause them to become dry and brittle.

5. Use a Gentle Shampoo and Conditioner

Use a sulfate and paraben free hair shampoo and conditioner on the extensions. For extensions made from Raw human hair.

6. Avoid Using Too Much Heat

Since your hair extensions do not receive the oils and nutrients like natural hair, avoid using too much heat tools to style them. Always use a heat protectant to prevent damage.

8. Keep them Moisturized

Sewn-in extensions always get moisture from your hair's natural oils, while extensions can become dry or dull. Keep them well moisturized, for example with a hair oil. For curly hair I advise you to use curly hair products.
